dual road side assistance

hello, we are fairly new to RV'ing, and we are also full-timing. We have RSA with our insurance company and also with GS which we got when we purchased our travel trailer some months ago.

Is there a benefit to having dual RSA? The RSA with our insurance seems to cover about everything we would need towing etc..

We were talking with some full-timers and we over-heard them talking about RSA, and they were either using GS or their insurance.

Just checking this topic when the GS RSA expires and whether to renew or not.

Thank you,

Bill & Jodi

  • I've always been a big fan of GS RSA. Their bread and butter is RVs. When you call, they expect you to be in an RV, so when getting the correct wrecker to the scene, should you need it, they know to ask the right questions to do so. Some plans have charges above and beyond for motor homes, they call "plus" plans.
  • that is what I was researching, as to whether I could use both RSA to cover cost. Then having dual RSA would def be a benefit.

  • Usually, if you have 2 tow services, you cannot collect from both for the same service call. The benefit would be having 2 to choose from. I'm not sure that is so much of an advantage when you figure out costs. The only way a 2nd one would usually pay is if the 1st pays out to it's limit and the charges were higher. The additional unpaid amount may be covered by the 2nd company.
  • thank you for input, hmmm lot's to think about. will research the coach-net and we are also AAA members so we'll also look into that.

    thank you again for input.

  • I have been with AAA and now GS RSA. Like so many companies it depends on the company providing the service. We were about 400 miles from home woke up to find a flat on the inside rear of our motorhome. Bad valve stem! Called GS and the crew came in a AAA pickup truck. Great crew fixed us up and we're back on the road. Then about 200 miles down the road that tire completely failed. Called GS again but this crew was right out of Deliverance! They got "lost" trying to find us... we're on the exit ramp off the interstate. Kind of hard to miss a 31ft RV! But they did.... Wife, dog, and kid stayed in the RV while I tried to monitor them. They stripped an axle nut putting on the spare. I had to give them my wrenches to do the job with as they did not have the right tools. Once spare was on we got out of there quickly! Called GS to take that crew off their call list!
Both cases GS was VERY helpful calling us back to be sure we were all set.
We have a tow rider with our Insurance and I also am still carrying a AAA family plan card. AAA has always been great. The Insurance was slow to repay us for a minor short tow. And sent a letter that while they paid the bill they "suggested" not using it as it will cause our insurance rates to go up if we call them more than once ever few years!
  • I have 2. Both GS and Coach-Net will give you a choice if your rig break down, either tow, or they will pay for a mobile mechanic to come to you (You are responsible for labor charges once the mobile mechanic is there). I have a DP, and if I break down and can't figure it out, I will most likely ask for a mobile mechanic. A mobile mechanic can fix most things, but what if it is something he can't fix and requires a tow? If I need a tow I will call the one I didn't call for the mobile mechanic.
  • I have two....one with Progressive Insurance and the other with AAA and as it turns out, the one time I needed a mobile tire company to replace a blowout, AAA came through.
