Overall and in generalities, rarely IMO but it depends on the details w/i the warranty. Most extended warranties are fixed to ensure the "offerer" comes out ahead as opposed to you.
I know that neither I nor the man are particularly handy (him less than me and he's PERFECTLY content with the status qua:D) so I'll be buying new with the longest warranty I can get.
I admire those who can pull an electric circuit board apart, add mods that involve plumbing but I know the limitations of me and mine.
