I saw one on a secondary road that specifically included pick up trucks on the sign. One day when I wasn't in a rush, I stopped and talked to the officer and they were more concerned with folks who had aux fuel tanks, filling up in the 'wrong' state.
What is illegal about filling up in a different state ? Everybody knows fuel is normally cheaper in Georgia, so coming down I-75 I always fill up (including my aux tank) just before the Florida border. And anyway, how would they know where I got fuel ???

What they are trying to stop is someone using off road fuel to run on the road. Over the road trucks buy fuel permits, basically prepaying their fuel taxes. That's why the prices are cheaper at over the road pumps. An RV getting fuel at the same pumnp pays road taxes at the pump. that semi one island over doesn't. If you don't pay road taxes, it is substantially cheaper. Dyed fuel means it's off road only. In other words, run untaxed fuel on the road and they can hammer you for tax evasion.
