I had a similar situation, except I was already working from home before the buyout. The company had a local office 1.5 hours drive, so they just had me come into the office once a week for status updates etc. After the buyout, I reported to the Sunnyvale CA office. Went there 3 or 4 times a year.
Some advise. Have an "office" - a room that you actually go to when you're working. Get a scanner and a printer. Don't bother with a fax or a separate phone line, just use your cell.
I didn't adjust my hours to agree with west coast time, but I made myself available until 5pm west coast time for meetings. This only became an issue when I started working on a project that included some engineers in Beijing. We had some 9pm teleconferences.
Remember that you're out of sight and out of mind. Establish a good working relationship with your immediate supervisor and prove your worth regularly. Get to the point where people don't know that you're not in the same office. People in Sunnyvale were asking my boss where I sat so they could discuss an issue. They were amazed that I was 3 time zones and 3000 miles away.
