Holy smokes! Visit to the scale was a shocker!

Today was the big day. Put it on the scales to find out if a 3/4 would do the job with a little margin. Registration, specs, and everything else I could find says it weighs 11000 empty.....
With two Harley's, maybe 1/2 tank of water, 1/2 tank of grey water and essentials:
Pin weight: 3460
Axle weight: 13020
I am still in shock!
Real happy I decided to scale it before buying a TV.... Looks a dually is my only choice.

  • I guess I read the post wrong, that is higher than I would have thought, it will be a nice truck in the end.

Not sure about your surprise, would think you would be close to 12,000 before water and bikes so 13,000 would not be unexpected. 350's or 3500's srw have payloads of 3900 to 4200 or so, that would be doable but drw would be better. Good luck on your search.

You're right if it weighed 13-14,000, that is what I expected, not nearly 17,000

16,480# actual weight........yeah that is Dually territory.

Good job on getting it weighed PRIOR to truck purchase.

Friend tow it down to scales for you?

    What is the trailers GVWR?

Yes, good friend with a dually pulled it to where it will live when we aren't traveling about 240 miles away. GVWR is 16,000 on the trailer.

  • This exactly why you see so many "weight police" responses on this site.

Hey, my trailer is only 11k#, surely my brand new 3/4 ton can tow this. Then reality hits them squarely in the head after the money has already been spent.

Nice Job. Your going to be much happier and spent a lot less money in the long run

  • Good thing you made the trip to the scale before making a truck purchase! Good luck in your search for a new dually.
  • Not surprised that 2 Harleys and your camping gear added a few thousand LBS.
  • Not at all surprised.

Empty weight is that light one time when you bring bring it home from the dealer (even though the title says so)......... Ours advertised Empty weight 92500 actual empty with options 9800, loaded with camping stuff & golf car 13800 (by the cat scales). Gross 14,550.

Duelly was only way to go for us.........
  • Our forty foot fiver was our first also and unfortunately we bought a SRW F350 before we bought our trailer. Purchased a DRW in December, stability greatly improved. Good luck and have fun.
