- RoyBExplorer III have only seen a couple of campgrounds in my travels with just 50A Service... I suspect the high end campgrounds providing hookups for the hugh motorhomes Travelers might be 50A service only. Most of our campgrounds however are camping off the power grids here on the East side of the US.
All of this info is readily available from all of the RESERVATION links I have seen.
I carry both the RV50A to 30A and the RV30A to 15A ADAPTERS just in case I run into the same situation.
I use my RV30A-15A ADAPTER all the time connecting my 30A Shore Power Cable to my 2KW Honda Generator to re-charge my batteries.
I got my ADAPTERS from AMAZON but they are also available from WALMART in the CAMPING/RV SECTION.
I sometimes use the RV50A to 30A ADAPTER when both sources are available and I notice the 30A SERVICE is well used and showing black burnt marking from arcing over etc...
I also carry a standard 20AMP Extension cord to use with the pedestal 20AMP service when we are using additional oil filled heaters to suppliment the propane furnace heat...
ALways got to have PLAN Bs ....
Roy Ken - korbeExplorerWe have all the different scenarios just in case. Just part of being prepared.
- wildtoadExplorer IIIf I were selling adapters, I'd say that too. Quite frankly I have never been to a 50amp only place, not sure I'd want to. I only have a 30amp system and have never had a problem. I do carry a 30=>20amp just cause I had it when I needed it at home before installing a 30amp plug. If I ever run into a situation where the I need a 50amp adapter, I'll buy one. Better than having one that never gets used.
- FrankShoreExplorerYes, you'll need one of these, plus get yourself a 30amp stepdown as well. You never know when you might need to plug in. Also, it would be wise to invest in a Progressive Industries surge protector or a PMS (Powwer mgt system) Progressive offers a Lifetime warranty, where "Surge Guard" doesn't
- DrewEExplorer IIThe current NEC requires a 15/20A outlet at the campsite along with the 50A and/or 30A outlet. That doesn't mean that every campground is so equipped, of course.
I think it's generally pretty rare to find a 50A without either a 30A or a 20A or (most likely) both. What sort of condition the various receptacles are in is an entirely different question. - SlowBroExplorer IIIThe reviews on that product helped answered my question. Sometimes the 30A outlet is too worn. Sometimes a 30A load trips a 30A breaker. Sometimes you're forced into a larger site with only a 50A outlet.
We're not yet going to be road warriors -- just occasional travel -- and the sites on my upcoming trip that I plan to visit all say they have 30A service, so I'm still not 100% certain I should buy it in advance.
I know I know. When you need it, you need it, and then it's priceless.
