How to find a good service center

We bought a new Winnie 3 weeks ago. Before we closed we picked our add ons and they had 3 weeks to put them in. We took the RV out for a weekend and brought it back with a minor punch list of broken or inop items. I certainly expected a few .

What I didn't expect is for things like installing a satellite antenna and repairing a faulty waste valve and a few marker lights to take weeks to fix. It was my bad to pay before the work was done but except for the shake down cruise we would not have known anything was broken.

I also did not expect to have calls not be returned or a steam of assurances broken. I didn't expect my salesman to stop answering questions after we purchased the RV. I did not expect every tech to be off on every day we have gone back to pick it up. The GM and service people really don't seem to care and their appears to be no way to leverage them into doing so.

Is my best bet just to find another Winnebago service center. We had reservations at a park this weekend. We were told last Saturday to pick it up today. So far today it took 2 hours to get a call back. We've been waiting 3 hours for him to walk outside, check with the tech and call us back with a status. I hope this isn't normal but fear it is.

  • Resources. Thank you all.

I was definitely made aware of the corporate separation of departments but the hard way.

We'll get on the phone to Winnebago and see if they can help. We're on the SC Ga line about 20 miles from Augusta if anybody has a shop they like.

Is warranty work slow pay for service centers? Not sure why the reputation is so bad with dealer service but it appears well earned.
  • Do any of your neighbors have travel trailers? Or fancy horse trailers?

That's how I found my trailer shop. Or, call and ask a local campground who they recommend.
  • Often great salespeople work at very poor dealerships. Often, although the dealership and the service center have the same name and share front office activities, they are in reality two separate corporations. This limits liability, the used vehicle sales may be a third corporation.
But like any service you contract, if you do not get what you want, find someplace else.
For Winnebago warranty service, call Winnebago and ask for assistance. For basic repairs, post with location specifics for yourself and ask for recommendations. Winnebago also has a WIT website for Winnebago Itasca Club members. To find a mobile technician, check at a local campground, they usually have a card for a few mobile guys (or gals) and my experience is they are good, as the campground does not want to recommend a problem.
Sadly, when we purchased our Winnebago Adventurer some 14 years ago, a letter from an attorney was required to get the dealership to respond and complete the promised corrections and upgrades. Luckily, we had the promises in writing.
Best to you, and happy trails.
  • Unfortunately it is the 'normal' with RV Warranty repairs regardless of MFG.

Service AFTER sales is lacking at most all dealers and that is at ones where purchase was made.
If didn't purchase from dealer then back of the line....after those that did, after those that have bought there previously, after those that have cash, after etc.

As suggested above....CONTACT Winnebago and 'SQUEAL'
