I learned my lesson...Don't park on a slope!!!

This weekend we went to the gorgeous David Crockett State Park in Lawrenceburg, TN. Their website offers photos of each campsite. I chose a "moderate slope" site. I thought this meant the surrounding area was on a moderate slope. What it actually means is that the RV will be parked on a fairly steep slope. One problem we encountered on a slope was that the refrigerator WILL NOT WORK! $156 worth of groceries RUINED! We didn't realize at first what had caused the food to begin to thaw. Another big problem was that the shower wouldn't drain because the drain was higher than the water level. The weekend wasn't a waste. The weather was beautiful and it ended up being a great learning experience!!

IF it was off level that much. How in the world did you sleep, or walk around in it?
    Or fry eggs?
  • I saw a photo of the OP's rig on another thread and it's a Class C. Slope didn't look too bad. Also found a post that he's had issues with his fridge prior.

Lynx Levelers are wonderful things to own. Stack them up on the low side, and drive onto them. Use the tongue jack to level front to back. It's not all that hard.
  • There is a reason vehicles comes with Owners Manuals. THEY ARE TO BE READ IN ADVANCE . :S

The groceries are the least of your problems. The fridge is likely damaged and will need a new cooling unit.
If your lucky and it does somehow still work, its ability to cool when it's hot out will be greatly diminished.

    Sorry for the bad news.

Not necessarily, had a "slope" issue also. A circuit in the refrigerator shut it down to prevent damage. Had to take mine to an RV service center. There is a way that they reset the circuit board for an incident like this. Check with an RV service center.

His refrigerator apparently started working again when he got level, as he wasn't asking why it isn't working now. That points to it not shutting itself down. I bet it accrued some damage. Probably not enough to kill it, yet, but since it is cumulative and non-reversible, it will definitely shorten the life of the cooling unit.

  • With leveling blocks and knowledgeable use of your jacks, you should have been able to get it level. If not, they shouldn't even offer it for rent.
  • Just because the site is sloped, doesn't mean that you can't level the rv. Just be happy if you didn't ruin the refrigerator.
