Thanks Lantley. After the concern was brought up to me, I did a lot of homework last night (I work night shift). I found out that there are basically 3 types: cable, hydraulic, and rack & pinion.
Do you know the most important thing that I learned? I can fix a broken cable in less than a half hour at a camp ground. I cannot fix a broken hydraulic line easily or repack bushings on the spot. That means the Accu-Slide is a better option for a hands-on guy like me.
Plus, when the cable system closes the slide (in both directions) it seems to almost guarantee a tighter seal at the top.
You are correct. All slide systems can wear and malfunction. The key to fixing the cable slide is having a replacement cable kit on hand in case they break. The kits are available on Amazon. I carry 2 kits and a crimper at all times.
It also does not hurt to keep an eye on the cable. You can avoid breaks by keeping checking the cables and ensuring the tension is correct. It is a fairly simple process to adjust the cables.
