Just got a Hybrid, new to Black/Grey Water tanks, questions.

Thanks. We normally just use gallon jugs for our drinking water when we were in our pop-up, just to be extra safe, we will probably continue to do this.

Being new myself, there are some good vids on YouTube also. I'm going to get a tote of some sort to address issues. I have a small TT with under 30 gallon tanks and only two of us so, I'm going to go that route for onsite situations. There are some "lucky" people who have access to cleanouts (septic/city) at their homes they can access. I envy them greatly. Also as one guy mentioned, keep the potable completely and utterly separate from the black/gray draingage equipment. I'm going with two separate small storage containers well marked for use and likely not even in the same area as in, the drainage stuff in the truck bed with the potable in the trailer storage. OH, and disposable nitrile gloves are you friend. Harbor freight has them cheap. Being in public health, you do NOT want any enteric diseases...

There are several different RV instructional books available. Most of them are pretty good when it comes to basic things. Most RV dealers will have one or more for sale in the parts department.

You need to be very careful about sanitation. Remember black tank contains human waste. You want abaolutely NOTHING that will be used for human consumption coming in contact with the waste. That means hoses for ONLY drinking water and other hoses ONLY for flushing black or sewage lines. When your done camping, it is a good idea to rinse the sewer hose before putting it away. You will see on the forums many folks that never use the toilet. And if they do TP goes in the garbage. Most of us do. Again the key is proper TP and,lots of water, and never dump until the tank is nearly full.

The gray water dows not flush the tank. It will flush the drain line and sewer line.
Cleaning the holding tanks? Nothing. Many folks when their done for a while will put a hose down the toilet and swirl it around. Many RVs have black tank flush, I doubt yours does so dont worry about that. At RV parts stores you can buy a short plastic device that attaches to a garden hose with many jets to help clean the black tank.
Search GEO method for ways to thoroughly cleaning the black tank. Basically it calls for 5 gallons of water a cup each of Dawn dish soap, Calgon water softener and 10 pounds of crushed ice, and driving around for a while.
The key to proper system maintenance is septic safe TP, and nothing else. No wet wipes, no sanitary pads, NOTHING! And lots of water.
Same for the gray tank.

And just so I understand properly how this works, the water from the sinks and shower go into the grey tank, and the toilet only goes into the black water correct?

What is required for cleaning and maintaining the tanks? We are camping for a week at a KOA site in July, trying to decide if we would be better off using the shower house and bathrooms on site or use our camper and pay the extra for a full hookup site. We have a 2 1/2" year old so it may be worth it to just use the camper bathroom.

How exactly do I use the grey water to flush the black tank?

Close the black water tank valve. Add about 5 gallons of water and use. Be sure to use lots of water when flushing poo. When the holding tank is full, dump in the appropriate place using a standard sewer hose. If your in a full hookup situation, you can leave the gray water valve open. I generally keep it open, and close it the day before I plan to dump the black tank. I use the stored gray water to flush the solids down.
Toilet paper is your biggest concern in black storage tanks. Use only septic approved TP. Lots of water and never dump a partially full tank are the keys.
