Unfortunately, the tow weight rating for 1/2 tons is strickly a selling point and can't be used in real life when pulling a travel trailer. So...
1st...weigh your truck and subtract that weight from your truck's GVWR posted on the door jamb.
The amount of difference will be your "total" payload rating, ie: the amount of weight you can put into your truck..including the tongue of the trailer, equipment, tools, camping gear, passengers, and you. It's best to load up the truck before you weigh, but in your case I don't think that is possible.
Then when shopping for a trailer, your main concern will NOT be the length of the trailer but the GVWR of the trailer. Take the trailer's GVWR and multiply that by .15 (15%) and that will give you the approximate tongue weight.
