With the popularity of RVing growing, it is not as easy to get a good camp site without reservations. At this time of year, a lot of the best places are booked. That doesn't necessarily mean you have to have reservations for every night, but you will need to remain flexible. Consider national forests and corps of engineer campgrounds. I would suggest investing in the Camping world campground guide, then call ahead to where you might want to stop to see if they have any available sires.
While many good places are already booked, there are also many last minute cancellations.
