No waste hookup

We plan to camp at Fort Pickens in Florida and there is no full hook ups. The holding tank is like 20 gallons for black and gray, so total of 40 gallons. Its too small for a family of five to camp three days without a waste hookup and I am sure it will fill up fast.

Should I get one of those mobile waste tank that I can fill up and roll to the dump site and empty it? If so, can I get smaller tank than my holding tank size? I don't want to get a mobile tank that is larger than my holding tank as that will take up space in storage. I like the 10 gallon mobile tank. I was wondering if I can control to fill it up and then stop the draining process. I don't mind making multiple trips as long as the mobile tank is small and easy to store.

Thanks for any info and advice.

  • If the campground has bathrooms and showers - use those. Also - many campgrounds that don't have full hookups have a central dump facility that you drive to - not as convenient as full hookup but no big deal.
  • Yes, you're right, the grey fills up first. One of the things we do is to do dishes in a dish pan that fits in the sink. Then pour the dish water into toilet. The extra water and soaps probably helps it to empty better.

  • I sure wish people would realize that campin is different than staying at home. Teach the kids that staying in the RV is a bit different than what you do at home.

Are you sure? Conserve a bit. You may surprise yourself.

  • I'm not that lucky to gamble on not overfilling it. I'd buy the larger one. What happens if a wad of toilet paper comes down just when you try to close the valve and stops it from closing all of the way? I can just imagine all of it in slow motion.
