one way trip, selling an RV out of state

i thought of that too but i think we could get everything we need in the cargo van so i don't see a lot of point in dragging something around which is going to eat up more gas

Another option is to buy the cargo van and an older pop-up trailer. Not too many systems to go wrong and as others have suggested, donate the pop-up in NY. A cargo van would be easy to sell.

thanks for all the advice, as i posted in another thread i started, i'm going buy a cargo van and an SUV tent, a mattress, a self contained chemical toilet, then sleep in van, and do cooking, hang out, etc outside or in the tent

it will be less comfortable but a lot cheaper and more mobile than an RV and easy to sell the cargo van when we've finished the trip. the camping gear we'd probably give away.

The catch is that you could spend a lot more keeping it on the road for that trip than you plan to spend to buy it. Older RVs are often a collection of appliances that are about to fail. In addition, you will probably need new tires, due to age even if they are not worn out. You should do a lot of service to get it ready and you should probably replace all belts and hoses. If you do this, make sure that you buy a road service package that will cover any tow bills.

Donation is a good idea. Guaranteed 30-35% return on the retail value of the item.
You could post it for sale when you're getting within a month of your destination and try to line up some potential buyers ahead of time. Then if it doesn't sell donate it.

Don't try to sell it, donate it to charity and take the tax write-off.
It will be easier, faster, and much less hassle and waiting.
As previously stated, either way you WILL need a clear title.

Mileage means nothing. These are truck chassis' that designed to, and in daily commercial service do, go hundreds of thousands of miles with minimal repairs.

The bigger concern is a chassis that's been basically just parked for 20' odd years. 1,500 to 2,500 miles a year isn't enough driving to prevent issues.

Things like engine & transmission seals drying out, tire rot, bushings going hard & dry, springs & sway bars relaxing, caulking drying out, plumbing seals drying out, corrosion in gas lines, furnace, water heater, fridge, etc., etc.

the ones i've been looking at look clean and have about 30-50k miles on them. sure, pretty old but that's not much on the engine and drive train
