I had my Mom's boyfriend do some work on my trailer. The work I asked him to do was done well... The only problem is he lambasted my fresh water holding tank with chlorine trying to be helpful. I have flushed the tank repeatedly (five times and counting) but there's still enough chlorine in there to burn the back of my throat when I attempt to drink it. I gave some to my dog when we had run out of drinking water and she puked all over the trailer (at least 3 times). Any way to neutralize the chlorine faster than with the fill and flush method?Thanks

Yes, very simple too. Just put about two ounces to maybe half a cup of hydrogen peroxide in it and run it through the lines. Hydrogen Peroxide is totally safe and can even be drank though I would flush the tank one last time.This is one of those amazing chemical reaction things and it will kill the bleach on contact.

Leave the tank drain open while allowing city water to run into the tank fill inlet.

Another non-toxic solution is baking soda Depending on the tank size half a cup should do it (I use that much in 80 gallons) Works great.

dude must have used pool chemicals. pellets maybe - could be a pellet is still in there ... household bleach doesn't have that long of half life.

Go to a pool supply store and get sodium thiosulfate. ( Chlorine neutralizer).
An inline carbon filter will also do the trick but cost a lot more.

Don't forget to open your low point water drains if your unit has them. They could hold some of the concentrated chlorine mix that could bubble back up into your system.

I would ask him what he used and how much. That would answer the question of if he used chlorine tablets or household bleach. Is is also possible that you're not actually draining the tank when trying to flush?

Also are you draining the water heater at the same time as the fresh tank?

Baking soda will work fine but if there's a high concentration of chlorine, it will take a huge amount of it to neutralize it.
I had the same problem with a 550 gallon spa. No amount of baking soda would lower the concentration (which was off the scale) but a 1/4 cup of hydrogen peroxide completely killed it in 5 seconds.

I use a baking soda solution. I mix a small box of baking soda in a 1 gallon water jug and let it dissolve completely and then pour into the tank with about another 5 gallons of water. Drive around a little bit and run the water from the fresh tank through all faucets, toilets, and drains.

Then fill tank with fresh water and do the same with the driving and faucets.
