Well I am in Florida, which is sort of Camper Trailer Capital of the World so I do see a lot campers in peoples yards for six months and their "up North" relatives living in them. To be honest I've only been in the trailer twice. It is gorgeous and more than enough room for my simple little life. But trailer parks here are ridiculously expensive and notorious for high crime activity. Just about everytime someone is caught on America's Most Wanted it ends with "She/he was caught hiding out at a campground in Florida...". I'm going to keep an eye on the Craigslist thing. Thanks everyone for your knowledge feel free to keep it coming. And yes I do need a source of electricity and water neither of which would raise a landlord bill more than $70 a month at the most as I'd be on propane but I'm willing to pay $300 a month.
With the high number of RV parks and the good Florida weather, it's no surprise that an occasional criminal would hide out there. But to say the parks are "notorious for high crime activity" is both incorrect and misleading. A criminal hiding out wants to keep a low profile to evade capture rather than do anything that would attract attention to them. We stay in a number of Florida parks every year, and the only police activity I've ever seen beyond routine patrols is one person being served papers of some sort by a deputy sheriff. And no apparent criminal activities...
One of the Florida parks we stay in charges $325/mo for full hookups plus electric, but you must be a member of the Escapees RV Club to get that rate.
