My original thought was that I would save money by owning the camper outright, which I do. But when I budget in lot rent, propane, electricity and the extra gas driving from the campgrounds to my daily job I'm really not saving any money. I live in a mother in law studio and at the end of the day this is not saving me any money. I'm just going to sell it or maybe donate it to a homeless organization. It would be good shelter for someone. I do thank everyone for their input.
Many people do think they can live cheaper in an RV and it is not true.
Thanks for posting a follow up to your original post. Good Luck in your endeavors!
I totally disagree. I'm saving well over $800 a month compared to living in my apartment, and over $2k when I owned a home. It just largely depends on what your situation is and in what part of the country you live in. Since I live in two of the most expensive areas in the country, I save a ton of money by full-timing in an RV. Not to mention that I have the freedom to not get tied to a lease and I travel full-time for work anyway. I own two small pieces of land with hook-ups that I pay minimal taxes on as well a TT and Truck Camper. My mortgage, repairs, utilities, and every thing else that comes with home ownership ran me in the ballpark of 4k a month. I spend about a quarter of that now for all of the above. I'm debt free and happier than I've ever been.
If it works for your situation, then do it. But DO THE RESEARCH first.
I think making such a broad and bold statement of I TOTALLY DISAGREE is over reaching and while in certain unique circumstances it might be cost effective in general going totally the RV route is not going to be more cost effective in the long run over an similiar level lifestyle in the non-RV option. What really negates any preceived savings is the HUGE depreciation non recoverable costs of the TT and TV over just the cost of a fuel efficient commuter car added to the cost of the CG will exceed the costs of rent in a small equilvant sized apartment.

I fail to see how lining someone else's pockets with rent money is a better situation than owning property of any sort. My rent on average would equal 15k per year. My investment in land and RVs cost me just under 14k. I may have to replace those RVs once every 2-3 years with reasonable, used options. In that amount of time, I've spent anywhere from 30-45k on rent (at a bare minimum). I would have to try very hard to reach that level of money out the door in my current situation.
Oh, and by saying that I totally disagree, means that I totally disagree with your statement since it's a ridiculous thing to say. There are ways to make everything work and the only limit is your imagination.
