Permanent parking

Does anyone know of a website or other social exchange where one can find people who are renting out their private yards for someone to park a camper trailer to live in? I have an 18 foot trailer that I'd like to live in as I am single. I just don't want to live around a bunch of other people in a park. So I'm wondering where does one find people who are willing to rent their backyard or sideyard out for permanent trailer parking.
  • Well I am in Florida, which is sort of Camper Trailer Capital of the World so I do see a lot campers in peoples yards for six months and their "up North" relatives living in them. To be honest I've only been in the trailer twice. It is gorgeous and more than enough room for my simple little life. But trailer parks here are ridiculously expensive and notorious for high crime activity. Just about everytime someone is caught on America's Most Wanted it ends with "She/he was caught hiding out at a campground in Florida...". I'm going to keep an eye on the Craigslist thing. Thanks everyone for your knowledge feel free to keep it coming. And yes I do need a source of electricity and water neither of which would raise a landlord bill more than $70 a month at the most as I'd be on propane but I'm willing to pay $300 a month.
  • Craig's List has a Parking/Storage section. that's the only place i know and i seriously doubt there's a website devoted to this.
are you expecting them to provide water/electric/sewer hookups?

from what i've seen over the past 10 years, on numerous RV forums, there are not many out there willing to do what you like to do. in fact, i've seen none.

if you don't need any hookups, you could go to Freecampsites.net

While it might be possible I would think the legal such as tenant landloard, IRS rental consequences for the land owner along with the state, local/city ordances and zoning issues not to mention things like sanitation concerns and insurance issues such as liability for the landowner would make doing something like this within all the rules almost impossible.

Depends on where you live. Where I live, not only is it legal, but it's common. And largely unnoticed.

There are issues with landlord/tenant. The person renting the space to a tenant would have to go through the eviction process if it came down to it.

  • I second posting an ad on CraigsList. If you offer to pay reasonable rent, you might likely find a taker. Just make sure that you aren't violating any local codes or ordinances.
