WOW.....All you Hollier-than-thou responders amase me! If you dont like Dogs/Pets, I suggest you get out of RV'ing. As for some of you Smart Azz's....Yes, I do ask my neighbors whether my dogs have been a problem. I take responsibility for my pets as I KNOW most RV'ers do....the perception that all dogs bark when left alone is so far from reality that its not worth commenting about. It seems some of you have been on the road Toooo long and you are so intent on having things your way, that there is NO room for anyone else's idea of Fun and relaxation!
Ive had dogs and Camped/RV'ed my entire adult life and Ive never had issue one with someone else's dogs..NEVER I honestly believe that those here that have no patience, no sense of give and take are so wrapped up in there own little world, the fact that you even have a Dog at all is enough to set them off. Trust me, its always some on the same people on these threads that take such offense to anything Dog related. With all this being said, the common meaning of "not leaving pets unattended" is meant to mean "outside" and we all know this.
I love these Dog threads....Dogs are a part of RV'ing, so get over it!
Oh....now have a Good Day :B
Wow an expert on barking dogs, but has never experienced any in a CG. this past April in a South Carolina SP we had some tenter's camped next to us that had a big dog tied out to a Sky Kennel along with a small yappy dog. They left for over 12 hrs. with one attending to the dogs. Every time people walked by the campsite the yappy dog barked, this went on for the entire time they were gone, sorry you weren't there so you could experience your first barking dog. At another campsite we were at previously the people left their small dog in their TT with the windows open and no curtains closed and that dog jumped up and looked out the windows and barked at everyone that walked bye, again left alone for over 6 hrs. so don't me all dog owners are considerate or caring for their dogs.
Another topic you didn't mention is those that do not clean up after their dogs, and I suppose you have never seen this happen either. Some dog owners are as clueless as some families that let their kids run wide, through other campsites, yelling, etc. Some RVr's are considerate and some are clueless and should take a course in courtesy while camping.
Now before you assume I am a dog hater, we have traveled with up to 5 dogs when we had a TT and now travel with 3 Basset hounds in our MH. When we leave they are crated and we leave a radio on, which blocks out any outside noise, as our MH is very well insulated from outside noise. We have an Auto Gen system to keep the AC units on if their is a power outage.
So like Jack Nicholson, once said "You can't Handle the Truth" to Tom Cruise. - sdianel_-acct_cExplorerWe are full timers and have stayed at many parks where pet owners left their dogs in their RV all day and the dogs barked the entire time. Anyone walking by, the dogs feel a threat and bark. Just their nature. Please make other arrangements.

Because there are many different versions of unattended. And unless a campground tells me how they define it, i don't ask and do as i would at home. "
What in the world do you mean?? Give us some examples of different meanings.
Unattended means just that. So don't interpret it to suit yourself! - TerryallanExplorer II

Probably because in a 100 site RV park there is almost always one incessantly barking dog left alone in a rig. It gets really, really old enforcing any kind of policy. The norm is we finally get ahold of the person. They apologize profusely and tell us it will never happen again. The dog is then left alone to bark incessantly the next day and we notice that they are scheduled to leave the next morning anyway, so there is really nothing we can do short of tossing them out and create a big scene at 9PM when they return from their day trip. We then take the path of least resistance and say "What the Flip" and let nature take it's course and wave goodbye to them in the morning and then start following our ears to the next problem pup. It's only one dog, but they disturb entire sections of a park. Doesn't take too many for it to be a constant problem for both the park and the guests.
Good grief...... some ppl need to chill out. Just because some dogs don't know how to behave or have irresponsible owners, you lump all dogs and dog owners in one category?
Get real - there are wife beaters out there - does that mean all men are wife beaters? There are women who can be real shrews - does that mean all women are like that? There are children who are neglected and unsupervised - does that mean all kids and parents fall into that group? Some people steal - does that mean all people steal?
I surely don't understand the attack this thread took on, against dog owners.
Wouldn't it be more convenient for you to ban dogs from your campground? It wouldn't bother most dog owners one bit avoiding your place all together. You never know when those yappy ones will show up. But I'm sure that would bite a little into the revenues wouldn't it. You could do us a favor by letting us know the name and location of your campground. I would be happy to pass you by during my travels. No hard feelings either.
I muct have missed something here. WesternPO didn't jump on anyone, didn't say he wanted to ban dogs. Was just honest about what happens at the CG he runs. He didn't toss the bad dog owner's as I personally believ he should have, He let them stay another day, and bother even more people. But it seems you took exception to him being nice to the bad dog owner's. It's just possible, he wil be glad to NOT have you visit his CG. - happybooker1ExplorerJust like I take "no alcohol" to mean "if you're tying one on & cause a disturbance in the park we'll kick you out by citing this rule" I take "no dogs left unattended" to mean "if you leave Fido In the RV while you're gone all day & Fido NEVER.SHUTS.UP. We will ask you to leave & cite this rule".

Sorry if I offended you but I just don't think anyone should bang on someone else's trailer and yell at there dogs. Plus I don't think a stranger to the animal would be very productive in this matter. How ever if I had to vote my vote would be #1 plus you skipped 4 but 3 has enough to cover 3,4, and 5.
How do you train dogs NOT to BARK BARK BARK when left alone in an RV and the owners are gone for the day????? When the BARKING is disrupting what is reasonable expected level of peaceful quietness when I am sitting in my patio area, what should be done???
1. Call the Park manager???
2. Beat on the side of the RV and yell at the dogs to quit barking???
3. Call the local police and report animal cruelty. Ask all the neighbors around the RV in question and ask to check on the dogs to quiet them down????
5. Wait till the owners return and complain to them????
Before the dog flame owners light up, yes I have owned numerous dogs but always assumed that it was MY responsibilty as a dog owner to not infringe on the rights of non-dog owners.
I bet #2 really works.
Ok, lets start an online poll on what would be your choice of the above options: 1,2,3,4,5. Remember to vote only once:):):):) - westernrvparkowExplorerIt sure appears it needs to be spelled out in for some. Most parks (and no one speaks for all parks) generally mean not left outside, however, almost all parks will rapidly expand that definition to include a dog left inside an RV should that dog disturb others.
Good owners, bad owners, stupid owners, I don't really care. There is no way to judge an owner until they are on the property, and there is no way to determine how a dog will react when the owner is away until that owner is away. And just because a dog is quiet one day is no guarantee it won't be upset the next. Unfortunately you can ask most any RV park owner and they will tell you dog complaints are by far the most common complaint they receive. - AcampingwewillgExplorer IINo point in arguing about this....the responsible dog owners(the majority) are going to continue doing what they have done in the past and those of you who Just Cant stand to have someone with a dog in a campground, will just have to continue being miserable. I feel for ya.....but its a Big Country and maybe we can avoid one another, from my lips to God's ear's.

I'm amazed how people can rationalize the rules to make themselves exempt and an exception to the rules. If it says "Dogs are not to be left unattended" it means don't go off and leave your dog unattended. How can you interpret it any different?
Because there are many different versions of unattended. And unless a campground tells me how they define it, i don't ask and do as i would at home.
Very simple really!
See what I mean. :)
Wow, there are really more than one definition of "unattended", I found two!
un·at·tend·ed ( n -t n d d). adj. 1. Not being attended to, looked after, or watched: 2. Having no attendants
Funny thing, they mean the same thing - AcampingwewillgExplorer II"Self Centered" ....how very swallow one can be not to have a caring bone in your body. Sorry to break it to ya....the majority of Dog owners are responsible, they do care about keeping the dogs quiet, picking up after them and having them on a leash at all times. Some of us even take it a step further to actively engage in conversation with our neighbors to be sure there are no problems. I use to think the majority of campers/RV'ers were Happy go lucky too but your living proof that Im wrong.
As stated, Ive had my dogs in many campgrounds and will say again, the General conception of the Rule we speak of deals with leaving your Dog outside, tied up to your RV/Picnic table. Once again...its the common meaning of the phrase "unattented" otherwise I guess every single Dog owner is a "Rebel". Those of you who prejustice and stereo-type each and every dog owner is living in a fantasy world......Self Centered....my Gawd!!! Take a chill pill "Sleeping Beauty".
