I have a 2001 Ram 2500 with the 3.55 gear ratio. I haven't found anything it can't handle. Now, my truck is a 3/4 ton with the heavy duty chassi so it's a much heavier truck. 6400 pounds empty. I haven't found anything it can't handle though.

Payload could be under 800 pounds or over 2000 pounds. We don't know, so no one can say he is okay or not. The reality is the combo is already acquired and most likely not going to change any time soon. A scale will tell him (no one else needs to know) where he stands. Scaled weights will also allow him to evaluate how well the WDH is adjust and TW%/loading which he can and may need to do for free, well $15 for the weights.

You already have the truck and the trailer,why are you asking now?
Ballpark seat of my pants WAG. If you have an Express,Tradesman or lightly optioned SLT you more than likely are ok. A Laramie or Bighorn,I can almost guarantee that you are over payload.
The RV geeks on this board like to make things way to complicated.
The only numbers that you need to be concerned with initially is the not to exceed sticker on your drivers door frame, and the Gross weight of your trailer.
If you are out of spec,it does not necessarily mean that you are unsafe. And no matter what is said there are band aids that work to increase your capacity. Just putting LT's on will help. In extreme cases you can change to aftermarket coils for less than 300 dollars.
No it will not change the sticker, but if you wreck you will not be put in prison with the child molesters as some posters will tell you. And yes insurance will still pay the claim!

to the OP, you need to post the payload capacity that is on the sticker pictured.
that's the weak spot for 1/2 ton trucks, especially the Ram 1500. they are well known for having poor payload, compared to other brands of 1/2 ton trucks.

Payload rating is somewhere between 1200 TO 1500 lbs. You will exceed payload rating long before you reach the maximum tow weight rating.

As stated, payload is often exceeded before tow capacity. Of course the dealer said you could tow that much weight. What you need to figure out is if the weight you are carrying exceeds the GCWR of the truck. That is if you REALLY want to know...

Regardless, you are likely to hit that limit well under a 9200 pound tow rating. But it doesn't matter much now as you already got the pair. Scaled weights from 3 passes would help understand where you stand with respect to tow rating, GCWR, axle ratings, actual trailer tongue weight, and TW %.
