Refilling LP tanks.

I was just noticing the LP tank on the PU that I just bought. It doesn't have the same fitting like with a BBQ grille that you can just screw on with your hand. Do you just take these and have them refilled instead of exchanged?

Also, is there any way to tell how much LP is left in a tank other than just running out or removing the tank and weighing it?

Thanks!

"PU" in my world is "pickup"- is this a truck or some kind of RV?

If it's an RV and the tank has the old style hookup, it can still be filled provided that

1- It has the three-point handle indicating it's the newer no-overfill type.
    and
2- That it has current reinspection certification stamped on it somewhere.

Sorry, PU= Pop-Up I thought for sure I saw that being used on here, maybe I did somewhere else.

So basically you still exchange the tank, you just have to remove the fitting? I just didn't know what standard procedure was.

  • You can add a tank Guage. They also have a magnetic strip you put on the tank. Not sure how well they work. You can pore a little water on the side of the tank. It will freeze at the propane level.

There is a special wrench you can buy that fits the propane conn. Or just use a good crescent wrench.
