I have a 32' toy hauler with the gen set under the bed. I have ran it at home and out camping with no issues ever. My floor is totally sealed and insulated and the exhaust is extended past the sidewall of the unit a few inches. I have never had the monitor alarm without me testing it. I would believe the unit is designed to work with the generator running and me in it. I understand there are more economical RVs that may not be sealed well and have leaks. I guess I would believe if the alarm went off when I was using my gen set the unit is not properly built. Almost all have fresh air vents to let in air and it is away from the exhaust of the gen set. I do know that by adding additional piping to the generator you will create more back pressure for the generator to push through which it was not designed for. I leave my bathroom vent open all the time so I am not sure I would want the exhaust venting at the roof line with that opening in my unit. Maybe just check to ensure the seals are working well at all access points on the unit and the window seals are working correctly along with the bottom sealed on the unit. Properly service the generator and I doubt you have many problems.
