if you decide after a couple of years down in FL that you really like going, then look for a condo or something to match your lifestyle.
After decades of coming to FL with an RV for a few weeks each winter, in 2015, we decided to buy a small condo. Granted, if you don't like your neighbors, you're stuck - but we found a fantastic area and have made some dear friends.
Once the purchase price of the condo is covered (about the same price as a nice Class C), our expenses for staying down here are very reasonable. And now we drive a converted Transit cargo van, for camping and "stuff hauling".
I see the biggest advantage of a condo, is being able to have our families come visit us each winter :-) And they DO!
Also - a good real estate "nose" has garnered us about $40k in equity already. So basically, we live here free all winter.
I have done the math, the condo is more financially sound by quite a bit. This was not totally about money even though I'm kinda cheap. We will be in Florida next week looking at three different condo areas. We will also be stopping by a couple of the big Rv dealers in Tampa to nose around some class A's. Then we will have a come to Jesus meeting to see what we want out of our good retirement years.Give you a hint though...my wife does not play golf.
