Searching for right RV for cross country with disabled son.
Hi all. We are 2 years out from retirement and plan on traveling back and forth Wisconsin to California several times for the first few years at least. We don't camp as we have a place to stay at our destination but our disabled son needs a little more room than the new passenger car/van vehicles offer. I use to drive a Dodge B250 conversion van but he got old and rusted out.
Our group: Dh, myself, 1 adult semi-dependent son, 2 teens (one disabled) and an elderly mother.
Objectives: a vehicle that all six of us can travel comfortably in cross country with space for dressing/changing my disabled son. Any kitchen/bath/bedroom would be icing on the cake. We would stop at night at hotels for my elderly mother and then once we get to California she'd be staying with my siblings. We have a family cabin in California so the RV would be used for short trips around California and The Great Lakes for mostly just DH & I and our 2 teens.
I like the idea of a Class C with bdrm in rear and either 4 overstuffed chairs or sofa & dinette.
I'm very concerned about rust and I suppose I need to consider California emissions requirements in the event we decide to relocate there permanently.
*Mom and I are native Californians and I haven't been home in 15 years because of my disabled son (too difficult) so this is really important to me to have to look forward to.
Thank you for any ideas!
