I have a neighbor who is in the process of filing for disability. He says he got a letter from the social security office telling him he would have a hearing. He has a lawyer who explained everything to him but he has no idea what they do or ask at this hearing. I told him there are lots of people in here that are more savvy when it comes to this stuff and I would ask. Sooo does anyone have a clue? lol! :h

My late husband went to court for disability. They basically asked him for information on his disability......to explain it, when it started/occurred. Tell him to relax, don't make himself sound BETTER than he his......be very truthful. :) and wish him luck for me. We tried 2 times, on the third appeal, we got an attorney. Best thing we could've done. The attorney found out they didn't have ANY records from our doctors the first two times!!!!!!!

SS have said they didn't receive mailings of his, funny though because he put them in their own drop box at the SS office. Still got lost!!! Thanks again.

First, thank you for your service to our country. I am surprised you had such a long wait being as you were medically retired from the military. Gosh I thought that would have been immediate, no questions asked. They did mention that they have a vocational person there who will try to fit you in to some sort of work if at all possible.

Your friend's attorney should have requested a CD of all the medical records that the Social Security office has obtained regarding his disability. Your friend could also request a copy of this to review to see if there is anything missing. Depending on the judge conducting the hearing, your friend should be asked questions regarding his past work, his medical condition and what his daily activities use to be and what they are now. Sometimes, the judge will call in a Vocational specialist to discuss the possibility of other jobs your friend may be capable of working in. Sometimes the judge will call in a doctor to answer the judge's questions that might arise on the medical condition of the person filing for disability. Some of the hearings are done tele-conferencing (similar to Skype).

Thank you bamcote, the information has been passed to him. I also told him to Google the question. I think the SS people keep you hanging for so long when something finals happens it can be a bit nerve racking.

this might help. It explains some questions and possible answers. Medical documentation that supports the disability is key. (not just the doctor's word).

If it wasn't for all the able-bodied folks trying to get on disability, this wouldn't be an issue. I live in middle Tennessee and it seems that every able-bodied male has one goal in mind... to get on disability.

Shameful.
