Shopping for first TT...not seeing used that much cheaper

We like camping; we're just getting too old for the tent/air mattress/etc. thing. So I'm pretty confident we'd like a travel trailer, other than the hassle of towing and parking.

When I was considering a motorhome, I was definitely going to rent first to see how we liked driving such a large vehicle. I haven't had much success looking for a travel trailer for rent near us (Winston-Salem, NC), at least one that would be similar to what we'd end up buying.
