Hi. I'm glad to be a new forum member. I've found a lot of good ideas on the forum while we researched to make a decision on what to buy. We're brand new at RV traveling and we're now faced with our first dilemma. On Saturday we'll pick up the smaller Lance we've just bought. We're buying it another city and the same day we'll be going nearby to our son's house to stay the night, but where he lives there won't be place to park the travel trailer. The next day he's going to be helping me learn to maneuver it, especially backing up to park it, while my wife will be shopping with our daughter-in-law for the various necessities we're going to need.We want to leave it in a safe place, so can someone give us some tips on where and/or how we can find a place to park our brand new (empty) travel trailer safely for one or two nights.

With the store managers permission, park tow vehicle and trailer at Walmart. Leave a light and the radio on. Not sure about the safe part.....Well, one idea...Pat

At a local campground and then stay a few days to see if your daughter-in-laws got everything you need.

If it was me I would go to a campground with complete hookups. Use the 2 or 3 days to test all your systems, even if you aren't sleeping in it at night. It would be good practice. During the day you and your son could return to CG and maybe do some practice right there if they aren't busy.

If you told us the town, we might make some specific recommendations.

I would go to the nearest RV park or campground with RV sites. Then I would hook it up and stsrt learning what it is like to live in the thing.

Short term secure storage is rare. Dropping off a ne RV in a public lot is asking for someone to hook it up and drive it away.

And because it is new to you, I think it would be a good idea to turn off the water connection when away from the trailer. I turn it off anytime I am leaving to go out for the day. I have seen many posts about coming back to see water flowing out the door. Just a thought. I hope all rol

Thanks to everyone for the great suggestions and advice, coming to us so quickly after our post. We appreciate it.
We've decided that getting set up in a full hookup campground, not far from the seller, as well as not too far from where our son lives, is the suggestion we're going to follow. Testing everything and making sure all is in order. In fact it's one of those common sense, logical, and obvious answers where you think, "Of course, why did I even need to ask?" But I'm glad I asked as it's been our way of getting introduced to the forum.

You can't just park it (hooked up to your vehicle) in front of your son's house? Assuming it is a neighborhood road, and not a main road. If he has a driveway, there isn't enough room to just pull into it? You are just talking about overnight or maybe two nights, the neighbors might not say anything.

But staying in a full hookup campground does sound best, as you can test everything out.

Congrats on the Lance trailer. Took me twice before I got the trailer for me (also a Lance)

Park it at a local campground, like suggested and test all the systems, as suggested.

Lots of possibilities; You don't say if your buying from dealer or private party, complete deal one day later, or put into a regular storage place nearby etc

But I would check out.... get the VIN number and make sure you have insurance on it before you leave it unhitched anywhere!
Reason... our insurance coverage provided liability coverage if RV was "legally hitched" (term in insurance policy) for 30 days per our insurance policy. And no other type of insurance until we called and added to it policy. So if was stored somewhere and not "legally hitched" if somebody stole it, we would be plain out of luck.

Just something to look into at your end maybe your insurance is different?
