IMO, the trip is not about having the exact dream RV, but about seeing the country with the camping/RV experience. Buy the one that’s the best shape for the least $ that has the biggest tanks and fridge you can find.

I agree with this. If they are looking for a particular make, model, floorplan, then they are very limited as to what type of deal they might find. I'd also add that Winnebagos usually get a higher price for a comparable size of another make, so they may not find a good buy in such a short time frame.
The OP is also buying at the beginning of high season and selling in low season which could reduce the margin even more.
