Steering Problem

I just purchased a 2006 40' Country Coach Inspire. Driving it home to Phoenix from Tucson (130 miles)was a somewhat terrifying experience.
The coach wandered all over the road above 50 mph (not a windy day) requiring constant steering adjustment and not a second to relax. I spoke with the selling dealer and they assured me they had checked the air pressure and done an alignment then test drove it and everything was fine.
This morning I spoke with a local RV repair shop and was told a caster adjustment($240) would most likely fix the problem, this sounds like a reasonable solution but I'm not sure.
I don't mind spending the $240 if this will fix the problem but not if it's just a waste of money.
If anyone has any experience with this type of problem please share it, I would be most appreciative.
Thanks
George

  • In the AZ heat the roads often build up ruts from heavy loads travelling down the highways.

The front tires and the rear duals may hit different parts of the ruts causing the MH to wander. The grooves or cracks in pavement may also cause the MH to wander.

I would find a good cement paved stretch of road to see if the wandering may have been caused by the ruts in asphalt
  • Thanks for your reply. I understand it will handle differently then a car or small truck, however I don't think it should be so difficult to keep it in a lane. If I'm wrong about that I will not be able to drive for more than an hour without being completely stressed and exhausted.
  • If you've owned a MH before you should know that they'll never drive as easily as a car or pickup. Having said that it sounds like your MH has an alignment issue which needs to be addressed. It should be better but it's still a big truck....
