Storing a class c

FWIW, I store mine outside in the winter here in the mountains of northern Vermont ski country, have done so since it was new in 2004. I have only tried to shovel the snow off the roof once. We had an unusually heavy snow build-up. About 3 feet of settled snow. I have never had any damage to the roof.

My HOA allows 24-48 hours before and after a trip for loading and unloading, which is way more time than we actually need. We use a commercial RV storage lot, fenced and secure, $60/mo. It's close to home, and we stop by and check on it frequently.

I've owned a Class C for the past 4 years and have alway's had it stored outside at a storage facility due to HOA restrictions in my subdivision. I've paid about $60 per month and it is in a gated area with security. I haven't covered it but I wish I had and am going to be purchasing a cover soon. I am in Indiana so we do get snow and ice storms. I really haven't had too much of an issue other than the roof vents damaged in a hail storm.

The place I use does regular security checks. I've seen them driving around when I've been out at my RV doing some cleaning or minor maintenance. The only real issue I have had is mice. Two years ago I had one get in the RV and then just this past weekend we had another one. I'm not sure if they actually got into the RV at the storage location or at my house when I had it parked for two days prior to our trip.

My only tip is try to find a location that is not too far away so you can run over and check on it from time to time. We don't get to use ours as often as I'd like due to kids activities so I will stop over every once in a while to check on the RV. Start the engine and exercise the generator. If the storage is too far away then its easy to let too much time go buy.

Also, depending on how strict your HOA is you can usually get away keeping it for a few days. I typically go and get my RV on Wednesday's before a trip so we can clean, stock and do a test of everything before heading out. Then upon return we usually will have it in the driveway for a day or two before taking it back. That way we can clean it good before going back to storage.

Make sure that you or someone at the storage facility checks the RV periodically for rodents. I store mine on an RV Pad in the back of my property. I go out to check it often and have it rodent proofed- traps, repellant scents etc. Neighbor's cat loves to sleep under my RV ;)

I'd trust a CG more because there would be more people as witnesses, as opposed to a storage lot where if thieves get in, they can have a field day. Cameras tend to either get a black blob with a grey blob connected to a blob that looks like a hand, or gets a good picture of someone with a hoodie or balaclava on.

I store my rig miles away from any type of paved road which gives me security, but if I were storing it in a more populated area, I'd either disconnect the LCD TVs and put them on a bath towel in a cabinet (so if the thieves grab them, at least they are gone, and no wall brackets are trashed), and leave the outer compartments unlocked with a note saying that. Same reason when I'm in LA, I leave my car doors unlocked when I'm gone.

I would somewhat disagree. Storing it in a campground where you have people milling about offers much more exposure to possible thieves than a place that has secured storage offsite that the staff only go in and is patrolled occasionally by security, like at ocean lakes in MB. I'd even rather put it in storage at a mini storage with possible security cameras than in sitting in a campground itself.

Commercial RV parks, especially membership parks where many members go no place else, have storage parking areas. Seasonal RV parks often let youkeep theRV on your rental site. Most storage like this is out in the open, with respect to the property, so security depends on how well attended is the property,

I've not encountered much storage at actual campgrounds, as opposed to RV parks.But i'm in a campground now where the controlling authority (a tribe) allows some people to store on site during the week and come out on occasional weekends to use the site. This makes the CG look more like a low price trailer park, and wasn't policy when the state, and the COE before it, ran the campground, both had 14 day limits. But it seems to be what is needed to keep the CG well enough occupied to pay for upkeep.

If you want covered storage (almost a must here in thunderstorm alley) you'll most likely find in at a storage business.

Check the Yellow Pages as well. There are a couple of places near me that have covered storage big enough for an 'A', including electric. I don't know what they charge, but I imagine it isn't cheap. Bigger demand than supply.
