I don't think it's odd for folks to go camping without kids. I don't think it's odd for folks not to have a campfire (I rarely have one). I don't think it's odd for folks to just sit in their chairs in the campsite. I don't think it's odd for folks to have a tidy campsite.
I suspect that the OP is wondering why these couples would want to be in a campsite surrounded by families and kids screaming everywhere. Maybe they miss their own kids/grandkids; maybe they couldn't get another site; maybe they were just making the best out of a crappy situation... Does it matter?
