for us highway 1 is something for everyones bucket list. BUT
IMHO to best enjoy it you want a roadster with the top down going north to south. We did it in our crew cab pickup, yes it was nice, but I'd much rather been in a sedan.
Our son would argue that a motorcycle ithe best way to enjoy the route.
We love camping, I've pulled trailers on tighter roads than highway 1. Yes, it can be done with the OP motor home, but IMHO it may not be as enjoyable as you would like, and being able to stop at turnouts, with a motor home AND going south to north is going to be difficult.
Once you hit oregon, 101 is very enjoyable and great seanery regardless of what your in.
and don't plan on a very high average speed on highway 1.
