Bottom line, njtony's post was just random complaining. There are merits to buying tires (or most anything ) via different sources based on what is most important to a particular consumer.
Some value " free" road hazard, rotations, nationwide service etc. BTW it's not free, check out the price of the tire at the store and then the best price options online and typically you can see how much extra per tire the free service costs.
Some value new/warranty but more budget minded. Here are the internet sales, tire rack, amazon, etc.
Some value that personal " hey Norm" service of a local shop nothing wrong with that.
Others are just after the best price for a given item. Generally thats me and in the last 10 years I've bought exactly 1 set of tires for our personal vehicles brand new, and it was a screamin deal on Amazon. The other multitudes of tires have all come from Craigslist, 90-100% tread, typically at 50% or less than retail price. At that savings, I can afford to shell out of pocket the occasional blowout and still be $ ahead. Not to Jynx myself, but I'm still holdin $ for that out of pocket blowout.

It is ALWAYS wise( I think), to get your tires/service done at a NATIONWIDE chain. From my experience, I strongly advise "Discount Tire.inc". Very competitive prices .......and MOST importantly....they know HOW to fix large tires. Yeah,Walmart and Costco can (sometimes?) save you a few bucks....but IF you have a serious tire-issue 15 miles outside of ,say, denver.....they DO NOT have a service truck. Places that sell cabbage are not to be considered "professionals" in the tire industry. Im not saying that they are "lame"....but Id much rather have a specialist take care of this item! As a retired Airline Mechanic/Inspector, the VALUE of experience/specialization is HIGH on my list. Just for giggles, I performed a search and found that the following cities have a Discount Tire,inc store....Minneapolis,Denver,Baton Rouge,la.,San Antonio,Portland ore,Cheyenne wy,Baltimore md.,Norfolk va.,Omaho ne.Memphis tn....and dozens of others!!!! My personal caveat is that I'd drive on a flat before stopping in Baltimore,or Memphis!!!! Just kidding!!(sort of).BOTTOM LINE...it is rather unlikely that you would be too far away from a Discount tire inc. store.I live in the Northwest, and a REGIONAL chain(Les Schwab Tire) is king up here....Superb Co, and very good people-highly professional-however they cover about 6-7 states. Wont do me much good in Texas or Illinois. On NATIONAL companies, like Discount Tire inc....their internal database can verify purchase, warranties,etc. This fact makes certain issues solveable from an internal standpoint.Just my .02 cents worth. (P.S. check your tire pressure today!

I get all my tires from Sullivan Tire, a local area supplier. Family owned, 60 stores in the region. They don't offer a warranty, but they do offer free rotation for life, free flat fix and free snow tire changeover. I bought tires for the DW's car 3 years ago. She had a small leak in one of the TP sensors that the local Subaru dealer failed to fix 3 times, so I took it in to Sulivan. They rebuilt all 4 sensors, no charge.

See if you can get that kind of service from NTB or Walmart.

I don't know where you guys are getting tires from but ones for my pickup are not cheap. Yeah, I got the Road Hazard warranty, net cost to me Free, Zero, Nada, nothing. When you shop for tires use your head. Second rule I have, try to buy USA made tires whenever possible.

I have purchased many tires from independent Tire Stores.. SOME OF THEM (Check before you buy) When they sell you "Road Hazard" it is, in fact, a "National" Insurance company that is providing coverage.

YOu can go to ANY dealer. Name does not matter. But ANY Dealer who sells that same Road Hazard policy and get a replacement.

That said. Motor home gets Michelin, only tire that fits. under FMCA plan so it's factory covered.

The car goes to Wal*mart for reasons in the opening post.

did you call Mr. Tire to see what they could do for you?

I had a similar instance where I had tire go bad while on the road in a small town with tires from America's tire. Called the dealer I got the tires from and they immediately offered to either overnight tire to a local dealer to install or have me buy new tires and get reimbursed when I returned and correct matching tires installed.

Wow, that's some conclusion you're leaping to with absolutely no information to support it.

The op never stated there was anything in the warrantees small print saying you had to go to mr. Tire. Lots of times, you can purchase a tire at another establishment and, if you can show the tire was not repairable, you can get reimbursed.

How did you leap to the conclusion that the op was misled, things were hurried in am all print, and this is another case of American business trying to rip off the public?

Whatever happened to personal accountability? Whenever I've been offered an extended warrantee, I always consider the extent of coverage. In an example like this, I would have asked how extensive the network of tire dealerships is. Even if they have stores in every state, you could still be many hours away from one.

What on earth ever happened to common sense?

This is true, so much money spent on insurance that is seldom used.
