Towing 5th wheel with short bed truck.

You and I have an almost identical set-up...I started with a Reese manual slider, my Truck is a 2004 Dodge. 2500, and my 34 ft Keystone Outback 5th wheel has rounded corners...I'm not a professional installer, but I trust my abilities and installed the hitch rails myself (on two different trucks) with no problems since 2005.
All that said, I made sure I moved the slider back anytime I was doing any maneuvering even though it was a pain to do sometimes.
I never had any problems until I parked in a big parking lot next to a place to eat...after eating, and checking everything before pulling out, I started across the parking lot ( in the lane, by the way) and as I am about halfway through a turn at the exit, a guy cut across my front end making me slam on the brakes. Everything was fine until the 5er, having it's brakes locked tilted and lunged, and when it did, the corner of the camper hit the upper corner of the truck and pushed it in about an inch and about 4 inches long...no other damage anywhere else to the truck or the camper.
I now have a SuperGlide that works automatically... outa sight, outa mind...no regrets.

Whether really needed or not I love my SuperGlide. Just a great hitch. So much smoother hitching and unhitching than old Husky hitch. Trouble free after 4 years so far.

Good for beginners too as its impossible to high hitch. The SuperGlide also allows me to have an in bed tool box that trailer never hits.

It's expensive but there are deals to be found and in the scope of things considering price of trailer and truck its not a major factor. It works!

I tow with a short bed with a slider hitch.Had a gathering of RVers and instead of trusting my myself I watched one of my friends and bam out goes the back window. No harm on the 5er just needed a new window. Since then I have used the sliding hitch one time and trust my own judgement.

Superglide is your friend.

I was paranoid when I moved from a TT to a FW so I bought an expensive SuperGlide auto slider. After I used it a few times I realized the shape of the FW front cap prevented it from coming in contact with my cab unless I went beyond 90 degrees. I bought a used Reese manual slide and have not needed to slide it either.

X2 only I have had mine 9 years and it is on a Chevy. Spend your money on a bed saver. That I have needed twice in the 9 years :)

There is a difference between professional and expert, one gets paid for the job and the other is supposed to know what he is doing!

Depends on design of RV. I tow with a short bed and the RV is supposed to be "tight turn technology" so I shouldn't have to worry about hitting truck cab. One day I noticed dents on each side of rear window. I don't remember turning or backing that tightly so I don't know how it happened, but it did. I'm not sure who to believe but I will just have to be more watchful from now on. I'm not spending another bundle on another hitch.
