I was a tour guide in NYC for 7 years, I agreee that you should stay in the RV park in Jersey and then take the trains or the small Jersey ferry in to Manhattan. Super easy to get to lower Manhattan from there. You will not find parking for a Class A in Manhattan easily. Of course, as a former New Yorker, I would relish that challenge, lol.
An entire and very fun as well as cheap day can be had in NYC. Use the subway. It is an easy grid and very cheap as well as safe way ro travel. Buy a daily all you can ride pass. See Central Park, Times Square, maybe Madison Square Garden, Radio City and make your way down Wall Street close to the Staten Island Ferrry. The Staten Island Fairy is FREE and floats right past the statue in both directions and gives you an amazing view. It is also faster than paying to wait in line to see the statue on the actual island it lives on.
Eat in the hole in the wall places. They are cheap and fresh. Avoid eating around times square.
If you find yourself in the meat packing district (noe a trendy west chelsea area) look for the High Line. Also free. It is now an elevated garden/walking path that used to be a subway line. It is pretty close to The Google building and a short walk from Union Square at 14th street.
I could go on for days! Just PM me if you have any questions. I also love to walk around Harlem and Columbia. Really cool area! Great food too! Also walk around Grand Central Station and Penn Station below Madison Square Garden. Really cool stations!
The best advice I can give about visiting NYC is to wear th most comfortable sneakers you own. I can't over stress thiss enough. You will do a lot of walking. There is no way around it.
Have fun!
