What do you use for a BBQ?

I use a Weber 1200 and modified it to run off my propane tanks in the trailer. Propane Gear has a kit for the upgrade at http://propanegear.com/weber-q-rv-quick-connect-kit-12-hose/ I love this setup!

is our solution.

Find an old washing machine drum, on many a weber round grill fit's perfect on the top, Now you have a firepit that doesn't smoke, a BBQ that works great. If you want to get fancy weld 3 nuts (1/2") on the bottom and use some 6-10" bolts as legs, get a round replacement charcoal grill basket and weld 3 nuts on the bottom and use about 8" legs to make a spot for charcoal when you grill. throw it in the back of the truck full of wood.

The holes in the side and bottom of the drum draw lots of air, it grills great, uses less wood than a regular firepit, puts out more heat and doesn't smoke.

When friends see and use ours, I tell them if they can fine a drum, I'll do the welding to make the stand etc. if they drop it by.

Between the fire pit, pie irons, tin foil meals and dutch oven, we can cook anything we desire. And the grandkids love the pie irons and doing tin foil dinners.

While I have a propane grill in the pass through the only time it ever gets used is if there is an open fire ban due to fire danger.

I have used a portable gas grill for years and sometimes also hauled a gas smoker. But I got a propane smoker/grill for Father's Day and I think it's going to work out good for both. I just got back from 4 days using it and I'm still getting used to it. But, I was able to smoke some ribs at 225 - 250 degrees for several hours and also grill chicken at 325 - 350. The smoke tray gives you that real wood smoke flavor you normally miss with propane. Check the video here (fixed it)

We have used one of these for ten years camping. On number two. My 14yo grills mean breakfast sausages and brats on it.

We use the same one. I kind of want a bigger one but it's just the two of most of the time and it works really well. We've had it for decades.

Did someone say the Char Broil is smokey? LOL Got to use it for the first time on our shakedown cruise. Yep it smokes alright, but it cooks well too, and not at high either. It gets hot quickly, and will cook at the lowest setting, otherwise it will burn. Would be nice to convert it to use the low pressure from the trailer, mine has a factory installed connection for a grill at the back. I figure I can get about 4-5 grilling sessions per 1# bottle. I like that I can store the bottle inside the grill and lock it.

To answer what brand BBQ we have, it is a Weber Q1000 which is small enough to store in the trailer compartment.

If you are using the proper hoses/fittings I don't know why you would be worried about using it close to the trailer. I have a gas powered outside kitchen with a stove, most trailers have indoor stoves, ovens, refrig, etc. I have a quick disconnect hose that hooks up to a pre-plumbed gas line to hook up my Q200 that I set up right next to my outdoor kitchen. It's all perfectly safe and designed to use this way.

I don't want the grease/smoke/heat against the side of my rV.

I use a Son Of Hibachi. Not suitable for proper slow BBQ, but grilling up burgers and the like works great. The fire proof storage bag allows me to put it away in the bag right after use and it'll snuff out in short order.

We've used several different grills. Latest is a coleman. When I want to use the propane on the trailer, I just disconnect the second tank and use it wherever I setup my grill. Takes 1 minute to disconnect and move to the grill location. No need to haul another tank.

Some folks think that's taboo, and you shouldn't disconnect the extra tank and use it. Don't know why they think that way.. it works fine, and again, takes one minute to do (I timed it).
