With the right weight distribution and anti-sway hitch, you would be surprised what a short little Jeep can tow ;-)
I know the wranglers are less capable tow vehicles than the Liberties, but you said you have a liberty as well, so maybe you could tow with the Libby instead.
We moved up to a 3/4 ton truck this year so we can go with a bigger camper next year, but the Jeep handled our 16 foot, 3500# loaded trailer like a champ, no control or power issues, though our Jeep is a diesel, so more torque and more front end weight to help control, so as always YMMV.
