What to do with the mail

We are getting ready to retire. The house is up for sale and when it is sold we are out of here. We would like to get rid of sticks and bricks for about a year. A problem that I am having is what to do with the mail. There is no one who we trust for putting them down as a new address to have our mail forwarded to. Any suggestions on what to do. would be appreciated.

Maybe down south you just drive with expired tabs until the car gets impounded.
  • For your vehicles, most states have you get your licenses plates stickers each year. Tabs here are the little colored year stickers that go in the upper right corner.

Do as much as possible to get rid of paper. Do everything you can online.

The one thing that's currently impossible to avoid is paper medical bills...unless someone has some forward-thinking doctors who will bill you online.
  • Lots of choices with mail forwarding services. We chose to use one that will scan the mail and we read it online. Then decide to destroy or forward.

Sbimailservice.com gets a lot of good feedback, Escapees is another.
  • Well........you need a legal address to use as an official location for residency in order to get Vehicle Ins, DLs, Vehicle Tags/Registration, Voting, MEDICAL INS., Wills/Trusts and MAIL ----same stuff you had with a S&B Address

Many Full Timers pick a 'domicile' state and then use a Mail Forwarding Service in that state that is in business of providing that legal physical address and handling all your mail.

Some folks just use a UPS Store mailbox etc.

But you will need one for that legal physical address.

SO what state is your 'domicile' going to be.then goggle mail forwarding service

SD has numerous, FL has several, TX majority use Escapees
ALL of them are GOOD---it's what they do and RVs wouldn't continue using them if they messed things up.
  • UPS offers mail forwarding service. They have a street address which for some mail is required for things like voting, driver's license and vehicle tabs.
  • If you plan to move back to the same area, go to UPS or Kinkos and find out if you can rent a box and have them package up your mail once a week and send it to you.

There are also commercial mail-forwarding services that you can use to establish a domicile in a specific state. I'm not familiar with any of them but there are several threads on it over in the Full-Time forum.

And regardless of what option you choose, convert as much of your mail as possible to electronic delivery. Much more secure and no chance of it being physically stolen.
