Good story Openspaces - and with a happy ending!
My future wife and I were driving her 2WD Toyota pickup and towing a boat trailer I had converted into a flatbed with our 4 wheelers on it. We were in Eastern Washington and it was cold but dry. We were driving on a twisty 2 lane road that was cut into a hillside with a steep drop off on the other side of the road.
As I came around another corner, the road was shaded and solid ice. The truck immediatley pushed straight across the center devider as if to exclaim Wee, I'm free!!!. I remember sawing the steering wheel back and forth as I rode out the skid, alternately seeing hill-cliff-hill-cliff and taking up both lanes. Using brakes would have been a fruitless act. Thankfully no one was in the other lane and I got it back under control. Scared the krap out of me!
