It's not illegal to do what you are asking. Smart?!?!? As you notice, lots of conjecture on this.
Reality, unless we know what version brand of truck you have, you may have the payload etc you need, possibly the HP power train. But reality,incorrect gearing per say.
I would chime in, generally speaking an 8 lug 25 series truck is the better option for a 10k trailer. With this said, ford has a HD 150 setup to do this well, GM has a few 1500 setups that also would tow a trailer of this wieght fine.
