We've had a few trips where we drive 650 miles in one day and we can do it without issue. It's the 3 consecutive days to get there that have me questioning the drive. 3 big kids can't sleep in the back of the truck. The seats don't recline, where does the middle person sleep, etc.
Is it worth it to go to these places with this pace? I guess that's what I'm really asking.
Will I regret not taking my family to Yellowstone/Tetons/Black Hills because I didn't want to drive for 3 days to get there?
Since you and the family have previously driven 650 miles in a day you know what's going to be involved.
Have you really talked this out with the family? Laid it out to the children that they'll be sitting next to each for these long periods? What is their take on it?
If the kids are all for it...and I hope your wife can help with the driving...then there's your answer. :)
Hahaha, another one with no kids! Ever ask your kid if they want to sit in the back seat for 3 days, 1 day, or 2 hours for that fact?
If your kid ever says "Yes dad, that sounds divine. Can we keep the windows up, heat on and no snacks please too?", check their temperature and get them to an emergency room cause there's something wrong with them!
Now if it was me and the kids were uncomfortably cramped up, I'd stick them in the camper!
Most every state allows for riding in a TC. Many in a 5ver and some even in a TT.
Let the flaming begin!
I certainly hope the OP doesn't bag what could be the trip of a lifetime for the whole family because of being talked out of a road trip!
On second thought, I must just be weird....the trip this summer, my co pilot only took the helm a couple times for a couple hours cause she was recovering from open heart surgery so it hurt to shift the beast. And in the last week, I've made a couple same day 500 and 700 mile round trips, solo, with an entire day's activities in between. Not a big deal.
