OP - thanks for the update. You will be satisfied with the performance. I had a 2014 Double-cab with the 4.3. I towed many things, and it worked great. I also had a 2015 Crew-cab with 5.3 and 3.08. I felt the performance was about the same.
I should not mention that the 4.3 truck could tow a 9200lb travel trailer more than 50 miles. I might have seen it done more than once.
