Silverado Towing Question

4WD.

A 1500HD is plenty for that RV. But I had a similar power/grear truck prior to my Burb. This is why I like the 6-spd: 50% more wheel torque in first gear than 4-spd/4.10, 5 usable towing gears vs. 3. You get into the powerband of the 6.0L (3000+rpm) a lot quicker and keeps it there with shorter gear spacing.

Is your 'Burb 2wd or 4wd? Still decent mielage regardless!

If the truck checks out, go for it! Should have plenty of payload, and power. May not be the best mpg, but it's the price we pay, right!

Though, the newer 6.0/ 6spd combos are sweet as APT mentioned.

had an '04 that towed a 5k tt and a 9k f'ver. 12mpg towing the tt and 8-9 towing the f'ver.

4.10 rear or not I wouldn't want to tow 10k with that truck. the only thing I hated about that truck was filling up every 150 miles.

I had a 6.0 fuel mileage is terrible they are gas hogs towing got around 7 mpg not towing around 12 unhooked but pulled trailer fine but engine really had to work You might want to consider a 2500 or 3500 with a duramax If your buying a truck spend a little more for a truck that will do the job We did the very thing your doing bought a 1500 hd thinking it would be fine but was very unhappy Went and bought a 2500 diesel will never go back as long as we own a camper wish we would have bought a 3500 dually Fuels a little more but the benefits are worth it for us anyway no limitations on trailers Good luck

I had one for a few years and really liked it. As others had said its a 2500 non HD rebadged as the 1500hd. No 1/2 ton about it, u will like the overall power and reliability about it. The truck will do very well for u. I pulled around 10k with mine and had no complaints. I went to the newer version and love it. My 02 1500HD will still be one of my favorite trucks of all time.

There is ALWAYS a better (enter physical item here) for the job, but you're set up is prime for national travel.

Set up and maintenance of both truck and trailer is more important at this point.

I highly recommend a 2007.5+ GM 3/4 ton 6.0L to get the 6-spd trans. World of difference.

Keep in mind that todays so called "small blocks" will out tow any of the old big blocks like the GM 454 and Ford 460. They pour out more torque and HP and do it with better fuel efficiency.

Don't let the 1500HD badge scare you away. That truck is basically a 3/4 ton and should have the 8600# GVWR.

My wife's truck is a 2001 2500HD. It has the same powertrain as that truck save for the full float rear axle. The engine is the LQ9. That is the HD version of GM's 6.0L LS engines that were offered that year. The transmission is the 4L80E which is only one step down from the Allison.

I am going to assume since you say it has the 10,300# tow rating that it had the 4.10 rear axle. If that is the case then the GCWR will be a very capable 16,000#.

I have towed 17,000# with my wife's truck so 7,000# should be easy for the one you are looking at.
