The 4.3 and 5.3, starting in 2014, were designed for use with these trucks, or at least on this chassis platform. They have SIX bolt mains, roller cam lifters, plus a host of improved designs. The 6.2 V8, also an option, is actually a 'vette engine. It gives off crazy horsepower and torque, but runs only on premium fuel!!
The yellow sticker in the door has a maximum cargo and occupant not to exceed 1750 pds. The truck is on T-rated 18" Goodyear Wranglers. The maximum trailer weight is 6700 pds. The GCWR is 12,000 pds.
In researching Sportsmen Coyote trailers, the 25' dry weight appears to be around 3600 pds. I believe my friend has read the sticker in the trailer wrong, as the GVWR on the trailers researched is 5,500 pds. If this be the case, is anybody more comfortable with me hauling this arrangement with this truck
The 4.3 with the new motor started in 2015 I believe. The RPO code for the last of the 4.3 in 2014 is LU3.. Whats your RPO say in the glove box?
these motors, like my 1996 s 10 were 195 HP and 260 torque at 2800 rpms.. Very good towing motor as on the highway you are in the torque band doing 65 mph...
Nowif you have a late build and it has the new motor Then its an LV3 ecotec3 4.3 based on the small block lt1 motors.
This new motor packs 285 hp @5300 rpms and a whopping 305 ft lbs of torque at 3900 rpms.. Now your torque band goes up on this motor. But having a higher 3900 rpm torque bad is good becuase you have the 6 speed.
I only have the 4 speed.
Either way have fun towing. Your good to go..
Comparison my 1500 with the 5.3 only has a 1500 lb payload, has the 5.3 LM7 @ 295 hp and 335lb torque.
If you have the 6 speed trans its a GM unit 6L80 ( no allison there sry)
First gear on that sucker is 4.03... WOW... No stopping that truck off the line.. A monter. Blows the allisons away off the line...
Why they give that truck only a 6700 lb tow rating is beyond me... I have a 7500 lb tow rating. My truck dont have much more power then yours..
I would get a trans cooler ASAP before towing. My cooler is small factory one But one is better then none,,
youll fling that little 3600 lbs trailer like it aint even back there...
If I listened to the people on this site that belive you need a one ton dually to tow anything, then they would say I will never tow my new trailer ( waiting on delivery) of 4800 lbs dry and 7000 wet, without blowing up into a ball of fire.....LOL
Tow away and have fun...
