Plenty of people towing an Equinox. I had battery issues as well.
If you search the Dinghy towing forum with the keyword Equinox, there's probably 50 threads including a couple of mine and one from a member named Dennis who actually got Chevy to change their procedure for towing.
I ended up not using the brake and pulling the fuse recommended in the manual. This potentially would cause the "death wobble" so I bungeed the steering wheel. That, plus an RVi Brake Toad Charger solved the dead battery issue. I now run my RVi2 brake from the battery jumper pack. I'm really glad I bought that jumper pack. The BEST purchase I ever made.
