50 amp breaker or 50 amp switch

I have a 50 amp plug that I use for my MH. It's run from a breaker box and an decated 50 amp breaker used only for the RV. I want to replace the plug with an on off switch and plug like you see at RV parks. My question is do I have to have another 50 amp tied into the new plug and switch? Or do they have just on off switches that will work?
Thanks

  • Hi,

If you wanted a disconnect at the receptacle area, you should have someone install a 60 amp 240 volt disconnect switch. One with a external handle is what I would recommend, so that it is easy to turn on and off. It will be harder to turn on and off than a light switch, but still be OK, because the handle is so long.

    Good luck,

I would just install a 50A breaker at the pedestal. If your concerned about the breakers longevity then get one that's "switch rated".
But as long as your not switching it with large loads attached a common breaker will do fine.
