80 PSI on Aluminum Wheels

I'm running 225/75/15 D rated tires on aluminum rims inflated to 65 psi. The only GY Endurance tires I find this size are E rated inflated to 80 psi. I do not know anything about these rims other than they are round aluminum objects.

Should I be concerned with airing up to 80 psi on these rims?

If I do go this route I will get metal valve stems.

Thanks

  • I would just buy from a manufacturer that makes a tire in the size/rating needed. There are several new style, cooler running, higher speed rated tires out there, that have been time proven, with good reviews. My FW came with 225/75/15 D rated Provider tires. They have been a great newer designed ST tire, with excellent reviews. Another choice, Carlisle HD. Both are good choices, available in your size, and D rating, at a better price than the GYs.

If you want the E rated GY tires, they seem to be getting good reviews from some early owners. Time will tell, I hope they will prove to be a quality ST.

  • You should pull off 1 of your tire/wheel assemblies.. Once off, look on the back of the wheel, possibly near the center for a stamp... MOST, if not ALL wheels will have a weight rating stamped into it that will tell you the rating...

Would this cause more sidewall flex and less stability? Granted this is a FW.
Any concern in a sharp turn being underinflated?

  • Check with KZ and see if they can give you the rating for the rims they put on. With my old Jayco they gave me the rim manufacturer and I checked with them before using E rated tires. Mine were alright.
