A Latex Mattress solved my sleep/back pain

Bought a Latex Pure Bliss Mattress (just the mattress - no frame, no foundation, no topper).

I'm very happy with it.

We bought a Brand Name $800 mattress five years ago for the Class A and it seemed like a good one at first. Within six months I was not happy. I called them about getting a different mattress and suddenly their wonderful warranty was not so wonderful. Basically, I was stuck. For the past two years I've gone to chiropractors to deal with the back pains. I'd be okay for a day or two and then right back into misery.

I told hubby the rig wasn't level. He's prove to me it was.
I told hubby the board under the mattress sagged. He'd add another 2x4 post under it to try to fix the problem.
We flipped the mattress every other month instead of every six months. I'd be okay with it for one night and then right back into waking up hardly able to stand straight or walk straight for the first 10 minutes of the day.

Before we got this Pure Latex Bliss mattress, I'd have to be dead tired in order to go to bed and be able to fall asleep through the pain. When I laid down on the Latex Bliss in the store (on my left side) it only took less than five minutes for my back pain to go away. I could have fallen asleep right there in the store. I was only getting five or six hours of sleep on that other brand name mattress. I'd have to wake up in order to turn over because the pain was so much. Anyway, the Latex Bliss was delivered on Friday afternoon. By WEDNESDAY, I had had just four wonderful pain free nights on this bed, I was actually looking forward to going to bed.

I've used a CPAP machine since 2005. I don't move around much when I sleep because I feel like I'm tethered. That's part of the problem. My body is sore from laying in one place in one position, night after night. I have not felt this rested in a long long time. After just FOUR NIGHTS I was looking forward to bedtime. It's been just over a week and I'm convinced this is the answer.

I tried doing a search on this here before we bought it and came up with nothing. I'm sure somebody has had questions about mattresses especially the Latex ones... how come I couldn't find any posts on it?

  • No, I'm not advertising anything other than I am sleeping much better on this mattress. Thanks for the compliment though... I think.

The mattress we bought several years ago had coils in individual pockets. But it didn't have a way to support itself. It needed a box spring under it. We tried putting a "bunky board" under it. (That's just a reinforced board for under a bunkbed mattress.) It did not work for long either.

Latex allergies? I don't have that problem so it's not an issue.

We bought a much cheaper ($400) latex mattress on closeout for our truck camper two years ago and we've taken two 6 month 5,000 mile trips in that and hubby really liked that mattress. He wanted to move that one into the class A but i had wanted an even firmer one for the class A. I got the one I wanted and I'm pretty happy with it. Hubby loves it too.

In all these purchases I've learned that not all mattress stores can take a used mattress. So don't think you can pull up to a store, walk in, find a mattress, buy it and have them carry it out to the rig... and expect them to off load your mattress and deal with it's disposal. That was news to us. We spent two hours finding just the right mattress...that they were willing to sell to us TODAY, right now... "cash and carry"... only to be told we'd have to schedule a PICKUP. (WE had told them this mattress was for our truck camper the moment we walked into the store.... but they didn't realize our truck camper was parked outside their store. Duh. and no, we did not want to wait until tomorrow for them to have a truck to put the old mattress in. (Putting it into their dumpster out back was not an option either. We left deciding to deal with it when we weren't on the road.)

I'm talking about two rigs and two different mattresses. But both mattresses were latex. There is a difference between those mattresses.

The $400 one in the truck camper is actually 9" thick. The doors to the side closets just barely make it across the top but we decided to raise the hinges on the doors rather than cut down the mattress 2". Glad we didn't because at 9" it's not as firm as the Latex Bliss which is 7" and I like the Latex Bliss much better.

I've only tried a sleep number bed for a short time in a store. I knelted on it and my knees went right down to the supporting board. Since I need to kneel on the bed to reach the cabinets over the bed, I did not think I could reach the storage very well unless I stood on the mattress. With my balance issues, that's not going to be fun. I remember sleeping on air mattresses in our Rocky Mountain tent camping days and it was always too cold for me. I had to have a wool blanket under me along with a down sleeping bag to be warm enough.

We've been married over 25 years and we've had everything from water beds to brand name beds. Probably changed out beds five times at least. This one's probably our last.
  • I am also a big fan of latex vs. memory foam. Mine solved a back issue, allows me to roll over without that sinking feeling that I had with memory foam and I do not get as hot.
  • We would also highly recommend Pure Latex Bliss mattresses! We have had ours for a year now. We are seeing the same back benefits as well as an end to Rob's almost constant leg cramps. It is an expensive purchase but worth every penny!!! Best mattress we have ever owned!!
  • I recently upgraded to a Stearns & Foster memory foam hybrid/. It has both memory foam and inner springs. Their memory foam is more quick to recover when you move, so for me it does not give that "stuck" or sunk in sensation that the tempurpedic does that I personally don't like. I know some swear by them though. The S&F was a good blend for me.
  • Congratulations, that both of you found something that worked
for your back pain. It is always good whey someone finds relief.
  • I'm investigating mattresses! We have a sleep number in the S&B and love it but the one in the coach is horrible. I've added some padding on top and that has helped slightly but we want to get a new mattress and soon.

I'll Google the Pure Bliss mattresses!

    Thanks
  • Latex is awesome! Solved my back ache. But I only had to spend $180 for a 3" mattress topper (single size). When you buy the toppers you can request the firmness, so I got a 2" firm one and put the 3" softer one on top of it. Perfect!
  • I don't really understand what Latex has to do with it. Seems like a Sleep Number Bed would work better. Lots of people have latex allergies. The whole post reads like a commercial endorsement. No real information except " I sleep better."
