Accessing RV shower with mobility issues

My wife has MS and sometimes has issues negotiating steps and step overs. My TT has a tub/shower, aside from completely changing the current tub/shower I could use some ideas how to make it easier for her. Currently I have to help in and out due to her stability issues.

I use a shower chair like Dutchmen Sport's father-in-law uses. Two legs sit outside the tub, the other two sit inside. It can sit on the edge, lift my legs over the tub side then scoot over and shower sitting down. A shower door won't work with this method and a little care must be used when positioning a curtain so that the water doesn't drain outside the shower.

Thanks a bunch! Checked the ones on Amazon out, would work out nicely. Just need to gets some measurements on the shower/tub.

  • Check out Walgreens, they have a shower seat that she can sit on and slide into the shower and also have suction cup grab handles that work great. I use the grab handles in my shower as I have stability issues also.

Suggest installing handicapped hand rails all around the walls in the shower and then a hand rail on the top/edge of the sink.
  • My father-in-law experienced a stroke that left him paralyzed on his left side and very weak on his right. Actually, his wife (my mother-in-law) is a pretty creative woman and fabricated a seat that rested inside the bath tub and extended over the side. All her husband had to do was sit on the seat, and then she could help him lift his legs over the side.

The seat could be modified to rest on both sides of the tub and not extend farther than the outer wall with stops underneath to prevent it from sliding off the wall ledge.

I did a Google search for Bath Tub seat, and there are some out there, made of plastic that are similar to what my in-laws used. (Although I think theirs was much more creative).

Apart from using a bathtub seat, I would not know of any way to make it easier. Your wife will no doubt still need help getting in, either sitting and swinging her legs over the tub, or simply stepping over the side.

I wish you well in your search for an easy solution.
