The AirX 400 watt turbine I'm most familiar with is designed to mount on 2" pipe I think. The rule of thumb for turbine mounting is to be 30 feet above anything within 300 feet of the turbine. Good luck achieving that.
The winds were that strong when we were in the Keys two years ago, enjoyed it a ton. Constant winds of 10-20 with gusts to 30 is not at all unusual. Also there are plenty of camping spots where there's nothing between you and the wind direction, many places on the beach, cliffsides, etc. One particular one I saw this year was Nomad View outside Badlands in the Buffalo Gap National Grasslands, nothing to block the wind for probably 100 miles =)
